1849-Minnesota Territory organized, legislature met in log cabin St. Paul
1854-First Capitol finished.
1858- Minnesota becomes a state
1881-Fire burns first Capitol.
1882-Second Capitol finished - but it was too small.They called it Buffington’s Lemon! (architect was Buffington)
1883- Bill to build a third Capitol passed
1895-Cass Gilbert was picked to design the Capitol.
1896 (May 6) - Ground was broken for the new Capitol.
1898-Cornerstone laid by Alexander Ramsey.
1905(January 2)-Capitol was finished
1937 Second Capitol building was demolished. It had been used for storage/offices.
1994-1995 Quadriga had gold leaf replaced.

The Minnesota capitol dome is the second largest unsupported dome in the world.
It was wired for electricity in 1905.
The capitol is 434 feet long, 229 feet wide, 223 feet high.
The inside of the dome is 60 feet in diameter.
It cost 4.5 million dollars when it was built in 1905.
